TRISH TURNER

There is only one word to describe Trish's work: whimsical.  She inspires me to go out there and just have fun with color and shapes!  One of my fondest memories of Trish was shortly after I had met her at Keith Smith's workshop at Qualicum Beach, B.C..  One day the group was out painting on this beautiful property overlooking the ocean. Throughout the yard, most of us were busy painting the west coast flowers, the trees, the ocean.  At the end of the day, I was pretty happy with my work...until the time came to compare each others paintings.  Trish's painting, by far, stood out among all the others. Still to this day, I can remember everything about it and the ironic thing was, that while all the rest of the group painted all the scenery all around us, Trish's wild imagination found the most beautiful subject matter of all....an old worn out pair of rubber boots that were sitting in a corner of the deck!!!!  The next day she stunned me once again when we painted at French Creek Marina.  She taught me to not just paint what was in front of me, but to see with my inner artist's eye!  Sadly, Trish was taken from us far too soon in a car accident in 1997.  I miss her, but I know she is watching over me and I know that the extra use of color that I now have in my paintings is because Trish is whispering in my ear every day...helping me to be more whimsical! Thank you Trish!
